In our school, staff and governors are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child within our care. 

 

This page outlines our key policies and documentation in relation to protecting the safety of our children. It also provides information about the teaching and learning of safety within our curriculum.

Safeguarding in the Curriculum

​

Safety is an essential part of the children’s lives at Sun Hill Infant and Preschool. Children work in partnership with teachers to risk assess every day situations and learning experiences.

​

All classes create class charters at the beginning of the year that include agreed safety rules and whole school safety rules are shared and discussed on a regular basis. 

​

Our PDL and Computing curricula explore personal safety in relation to multiple areas of life: relationships, friendships, use of the internet and Clever Never Goes (previously ‘Stranger Danger’).

Safer Staffing

 

We use the Safer Recruitment approach from Hampshire County Council to guide our recruitment of staff and volunteers. It helps ensure that, as a school, we:

​

• Understand principles of safer recruitment practice.

• Understand why safer recruitment practices are necessary.

• Develop a healthy degree of enquiry, rigour and challenge.

• Implement safer recruitment practices.

 

All individuals working at our school have an Enhanced DBS check carried out, and receive annual training on how to keep children and adults safe on our site.

Emotional Literacy Support

 

It is key to keeping children safe that they have the language and abilities required to express themselves. That’s why our on-site ELSA input delivers a range of interventions that help support and keep children safe, as well as engaging with parents to provide support to them in developing what’s needed to keep their child healthy, safe and well.

 

Mrs Defelice works Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
