Sun Hill Preschool
Choosing a preschool is one of the first big decisions you make for your child. You are looking for somewhere warm and kind, where they will be properly cared for, make friends, have fun and gradually discover just how much they can do for themselves.

Our Preschool sits within Sun Hill Infant School, giving children the freedom and nurture of a happy preschool alongside the experience and knowledge of a school devoted to the education of young children.
For families considering Sun Hill for Reception, it is a particularly lovely way to begin you child's school days.

Our days are filled with conversation, stories, singing, painting, building, imaginative play, being outdoors, making friends, trying things, getting things wrong and having another go.Children learn an enormous amount through these experiences. Our role is to notice it, encourage it and know when to gently introduce the next step.

We help children develop their language, confidence, independence, coordination, curiosity and ability to play and work alongside other children. These are the foundations on which later learning is built.

Our Preschool team works within a wider school community of Early Years practitioners, experienced class teachers, our SENDCo and colleagues with expertise in children's emotional wellbeing and development.

Young children develop at very different rates. Some race ahead with language and need encouragement elsewhere. Some need time to build confidence. Some may need extra help with communication, physical development, friendships, attention or learning.
Being part of the school allows us to draw on a wider understanding of young children and to work closely together when a child needs additional support or challenge. Our curriculum is designed to build from Preschool into Reception, while remaining completely appropriate to each stage of childhood.
Known before they arrive

For children who later join Sun Hill Infant School, the move into Reception has an important advantage: familiarity.
They know where they are. They recognise faces, surroundings and routines. They already feel that Sun Hill belongs to them. And we know them too.

Growing up in Alresford
One of the loveliest parts of Sun Hill is the community that grows around it.
Children make friendships and parents do too. At the end of the day there is time for a chat at the school gate, a walk into Alresford with friends, a stop at one of the cafés or a wander down to see the ducks.

Those early friendships, familiar faces around town and ordinary afternoons together become part of a child's sense of home.
